Abbott-Newman-Phillips - Truth Isn't [excerpt 2]

With the way that the calendar fell, this was the fifth Tuesday in the month, leaving an open slot at the Tranzac. Brian Abbott pulled together this last minute show, taking an opportunity to re-tackle his ambient chamber piece "truth Isn't", which he and Paul Newman had previously debuted at Array Space. It's a quite lovely bit of work, all gentle drift for sax and ebowed guitar. It's composed, but with some room to breathe, and this time out the abstraction was enhanced by some additional tone colour from Ted Phillips, whose cataRT system was loaded with micro-samples of the recording of the previous performance. It added a pleasing layer of soft timbral blipping in the room — that'll come across a bit more distantly in this recording, as my mics were as close to the sax + guitar amp as I could get to try and capture as much of this performance (and as little of the louder rehearsal in the back hall) as possible.
