Once again, the Somewhere There Festival filled up the Tranzac with a weekend jam-packed full of locally-based creative music. I got to see a preview of turntablist Cheldon Paterson working with dancer Libydo back at Track Could Bend, but by this set the partnership had really blossomed. With a much larger space to work in (including the lip of the stage behind Paterson), there was a lot more room for Libydo to work in as he went from doubling Paterson like a shadow-self to embodying the lurching, occasionally menacing rhythms of the music. Live, Paterson is stretching the mini-beatscapes found on his recordings into full-fledged suites, building up and exploring a whole solar system of sonic terrains.
