Concert Listings Roundup #139

You can read more about why I'm doing listings here. Long story short: This curated and decidedly non-comprehensive list contains nothin' but shows that I am going to/would go to if I had more time.

Gig of the week:

RANGDA [Sir Richard Bishop/Ben Chasny/Chris Corsano] (Wyrd Visions / Sacred Lamp) / Double Double Land 2016-03-08 (Tuesday) [FB event]

Three prolific lifetime members of the American Weird Underground join together in a new avant-folk trio; equally appealing is the undercard of prolific lifetime members of the Toronto Weird Underground — Wyrd Visions gigs are fairly infrequent these days, and Doc Dunn/Ayal Senior's cosmic back-porch jams in Sacred Lamp are a good source of wonderment.

Community notes/bandcamp corner:

  • Not a gig, but one of the week's most noteworthy events is Friday's "Musicworks: The Cassette Years" event at The Music Gallery. The night includes "a listening salon" plus "pop-up talks from past editors and contributors", unpacking the history of the tapes that accompanied issues of Musicworks from 1983 to 1997.
  • All-Set! Editions, masterminded by the multi-talented Mike Smith, burst into existence last weekend with a party to celebrate its first three releases. Expect to hear some recordings from that show anon, but in the meantime, you should definitely be familiarising yourself with those three fine albums. Word is a second batch is due in September, including the new Aurouchs and a long-awaited documentation of the Mike Smith Company.
