I try to not unduly self-promote my monthly music series, but there's no way I'd rather kick off my year of show-going than with an inclusive and fun night of creative music. Featuring a rising composer who just happens to be a dab hand in Arthur Russell-ish improv-disco (and who has played with the previous two Polaris Prize winners!), a musical blind-date of spontaneous pop music from two charismatic ranters and an enigma wrapped in a limerick wrapped in a mountain of processed cheese. We start on time and try to get things wrapped up by eleven.

Bandcamp corner:
- Saxophonist Paul Newman is a local treasure, quietly and thoughtfully working as a menber of the Somewhere There collective to put on edifying shows while also improvising and working on his evolving, carefully-considered compositions. His album of solo saxophone pieces a couple years back was quite wonderful, and he recently followed it up with an album featuring two large duo pieces with Karen Ng and Heather Segger. I'm quite happy to note that the album is now up on bandcamp and highly recommend it.
