Geez, what a week! Too, too much to highlight here. (In fact, look for an entirely separate SummerWorks preview coming up tomorrow!) From the rock side of things, for my most-anticipated show of the week I could easily pick the return of quadraphonic rock/sweat experience Four Corners or a special evening with Zacht Automaat. [details on those, of course, below.]
But instead, I'm going to draw attention to a rather excellent week at Ratio — one of my favourite venues — which is presenting experimental folk unit Mermaids plus Ways (the new Brodie West/Evan Cartwright duo) on Thursday and Charles Barabé and other experimental-minded folks on Friday. But most exciting of all — and, full disclosure, a show I helped put together — is a special night of electroacoustic/experimental sounds on Wednesday, showcasing Montréal's Noordwiijk (check out his excellent Sailor Boy II album, which was released by the excellent label Jeunesse Cosmique, below) alongside locals Allison Cameron and Debashis Sinha. Truly a night where you can get comfortable, lean back, relax, and really listen.
