Max Turnbull's musical quest probably hasn't eased off from the torrent of activity he was involved with a few years back, but on local stages recently one was more likely to see him playing alongside U.S. Girls or Darlene Shrugg than at his main gig. This current return to the stage started as a chance at a historical do-over, with his underheard 2012 opus A Hound at the Hem getting a re-release via hip U.S. imprint DFA. But given that that label is also committed to releasing Turnbull's next album as well, it appears that some new creative avenues are opening up.
